Launched in 1999 as the SuperStar Virgo, the cruise ship now known as Star Navigator boasts a rich and dynamic history across several prominent cruise brands. Originally built for Star Cruises, the vessel later sailed under the name Explorer Dream with Dream Cruises between 2019 and 2022. Both cruise lines were subsidiaries of the renowned Genting Group, a Malaysian conglomerate once dominant in the Asia-Pacific cruise market.
In a twist of fate, the ship’s sister vessel—SuperStar Leo—is now operated as the Norwegian Spirit by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).
From February 2023 to March 2025, the ship operated under charter for Resorts World Cruises (RWC), a fresh travel brand launched in May 2022 by Lim Kok Thay, former owner of Genting Hong Kong (GHK). During this period, it was rebranded as Resorts World One, continuing to serve cruisers across Asia with luxury and style.
Currently, the vessel sails under the Bahamas flag (IMO number 9141077, MMSI 311000165), with its registration based in Nassau.
The Star Navigator’s legacy began under the Genting Group’s maritime arm—Genting Cruises—which was one of the world’s largest cruise operators. At its peak, it was the leading player in the Asia-Pacific region by both fleet size and passenger capacity. Genting Cruises was publicly traded on both the Singapore and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges, reflecting its vast influence in the cruise industry.
Star Cruises, the cruise line that launched SuperStar Virgo, was founded on November 10, 1993, in Bermuda, with corporate headquarters in Hong Kong. Its early fleet consisted of cruiseferries acquired from the bankrupt Swedish line Rederi AB Slite. In 1998, Star Cruises made a bold move by commissioning its first new-build cruise ship—the SuperStar Leo (now Norwegian Spirit). The following year, the SuperStar Virgo—now Star Navigator—was delivered as her sister ship, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.
